Carey, West, Legend Lead Grammy Nominations
December 8, 2005

Christmas came early this year for music sensations Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West; all three earned eight Grammy nominations Thursday morning.

"I didn't even know what to do," Mariah told us. "Do I stand here? Try to find an exit? It was a really great moment."

Carey told us the nod that means the most was, "Having people recognize me as a songwriter."

Mariah wasn't the only one celebrating Thursday morning, "Extra" also shared a toast with John Legend. "I thought I would do okay," he admitted. "I didn't think eight, and I didn't think I would be one of the top nominees."

John shares one of those nominations with his buddy Kanye West, although Legend told us, "I noticed him and I are not against each other, which is a good thing because he'd beat me."

Speaking of King Kanye, "Extra" was in Los Angeles with West, who offered his own congratulations to John.

"It's just overwhelming," Kanye told us. "We're moving so fast, and I've been able to live out a lot of my dreams."

Those dreams have included back-to-back platinum albums and Time Magazine cover boy, of which Kanye told us, "That was way above my expectations."

West is now putting pressure on himself to bring home that Grammy gold. "It's probably particularly important for me just because I talk so much s***."

Jamie Foxx, U2 and Green Day also got nods. To see all of this year's Grammy nominees, click here.
