The Poetry of Alicia Keys
December 21, 2004 Alicia Keys is adding another ability to her already impressive resume, and our Tanika Ray caught up with the multi-talented songstress for an exclusive chat at her Barnes & Noble book-signing bash.
The singer-songwriter has added published poet to her list of accomplishments with her first book, "Tears for Water," a collection of poems from her private journals.
"Each reason that I've created music, songs, poetry, has come from some form of my tears, my sadness, my happiness, my joy," Alicia explained.
A lot of Alicia's poems and songs are about love, so Tanika just had to ask her, since she's so busy, does she even have time for love?
"I think we always have time for love," Alicia replied, laughing. "I definitely have time for love."
Alicia also makes time for her adoring fans, but does she ever feel the pressure to be a role model? "I don't feel it's pressure," amended Alicia. "I feel like it's something I want to try my best to do."
Alicia also confirmed that her next project is a major acting role, in a movie about 1930's pianist Philippa Schuyler, whose life Alicia's parallels in many ways. "I'm very excited about traveling back in time and being her," Alicia told Tanika.
But for now, Alicia is busy being Alicia, and you can catch even more of her in a special, new DVD documentary, "The Diary of Alicia Keys," which contains never-before-seen footage of the superstar.
