Holiday season is officially here, and with that comes
turkey, pumpkin pie and all the fixings. It also means,
if you're like the average American, that you'll likely
pack on about 10 pounds this time of year.
But if you're hungry for some healthy eating options,
"Extra" has just the answer. Hungry-Girl.com creator
Lisa Lillien dished out some alternatives to the high-fat
foods we love. And through her free Web site, Lillien
serves up free daily e-mails packed with not-so-naughty
foods.
"Being a person who likes gossip, now I gossip about guilt-free foods," Lillien explained. "The secret is not to deprive yourself. If you want pizza or chocolate, there's always a guilt-free alternative out there."
So all you chocoholics -- listen up: now you can have your cake (or brownie), and eat it too!
"These Vita-Brownies are the find of the century," Lillien showed us. "Only 100 calories each, topped with nuts, two point five grams of fat, six grams of fiber, and they taste great."
Compare that to a regular fudge brownie, which has about 230 calories and 13 grams of fat. And would you believe that chocolate bars can actually be good for you?
"Cocovia is actually a healthy chocolate," Lillien revealed. "These chocolate bars have only 100 calories and about six grams of fat, but they're healthy. They lower cholesterol."
And we all know that Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand. So how about a few healthy choices for the big game.
"Hot dogs are a mystery food, never know with hot dogs," Lillien said. "They have 250 to 300 or more calories and tons of fat. Hebrew National, 97 percent fat-free hot dogs have just 50 calories and one point five grams of fat."
"Potato chips are a guilty pleasure," she added. "Guiltless
Gourmet Baked Potato Crisps are great because in this
entire bag there's the same amount of fat in only one
serving of regular potato chips." And finally, for all
you pasta lovers out there, Lillien even has a smart
option for Fettuccine Alfredo.
"These are tofu Shirataki noodles," she showed us. "And
these will change your life, only 40 calories for a
bag. This is what I call Fettuccine-Hungry-Girl-Fredo,
and it's a version of fettuccine Alfredo that has about
80 calories." For the recipe, and to sign up for Hungry
Girl's free daily e-mails, click
