Why the Stars Can't Get Enough Dolce and Gabbana
November 28, 2005
They are the two names you'll find in almost every star's
closet: Dolce and Gabbana. From Hollywood goddesses
like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez, to runway queens
like Gisele Bundchen, celebrities just can't get enough
of the famous Italian fashionistas.
"The Dolce Gabbana story is like a fairy tale, because in the beginning, nobody believed in us," the designing duo said.
Supermodel Isabella Rossellini first slipped into Dolce
and Gabbana's sexy designs 20 years ago. But it was
Madonna who gave the designers their biggest break when
she hired them to design her 1993 world tour costumes.
"She taught us a lot," they said. "About fashion, about point of view, about life."
Dolce and Gabbana, who have broken off their personal relationship but remain business partners, have published a book about their incredible success story. "We started because we love fashion," they said.
But believe it or not, as much as Dolce and Gabbana
love dressing Hollywood's most glamorous, they've actually
started boycotting Tinseltown's biggest night. "I
don't want to work for Oscars anymore," they said,
stating that today's fashions are too conservative.
Dolce and Gabbana's Twentieth Anniversary Retrospective is on bookshelves now.
