The country's favorite "Newlyweds," Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, are calling it quits, and as questions intensify about the couple's future and fortune, "Extra" has learned new details about the split.

"Extra" caught Simpson alone in the Los Angeles airport Wednesday, where she was on her way to her family's home in Texas. She was apparently still wearing her wedding ring.

Lachey reportedly spent Thanksgiving in Los Angeles watching football with his buddies.

Us Weekly's Dana Sansing told us that despite all the headlines, there is no evidence of a third person involved in the couple's split. Instead, she said that career pressure and time apart are to blame.

"They really both wanted to make this work," Sansing said.

Nick has also had to get used to living in Jessica's celebrity shadow. Simpson enjoyed a wildly successful year, pocketing tens of millions from her cosmetic line, new clothing line, endorsements and her first big movie, "The Dukes of Hazard."

Nick has been a lot less visible. While he did a stint reporting on college football for ESPN, his ABC sitcom never got off the ground and his solo album was disappointing.

"It couldn't have been easy for Nick to see his wife making $35 million where he was making a lot less money," Sansing said.

So what about their financial future? Nick joked with "Extra" earlier this year, telling us the key to their happy marriage is no pre-nup. But if that is the case, and Nick and Jessica divorce, California law requires them to split everything 50-50.

So what's next? "Extra" has learned that Jessica is in talks to become the next Bond girl.

But Sansing told us, "Nobody is ruling out reconciliation. Perhaps down the line they could even get back together."

The one place they will for sure be back together is on DVD. Season four of "The Newlyweds" comes out in December.
