'Rent' Makes Jump from Stage to Big Screen
November 23, 2005
For nearly 10 years, "Rent" packed in theaters around the globe. Now, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is coming to the big screen.
"Rent" is about a year in the life of friends in New York City who deal with love, life and death. And Rosario Dawson took a few minutes to talk to "Extra's" AJ Calloway about playing an exotic dancer in the film.
"They're like, 'We're thinking about doing a pole dancing scene,'" Dawson recalled. "And I was like, 'Okay, give me some heels.' I just worked it. I'm a big mimic. So they watched it, and they were like, 'Did you take a strip dancing class?' And I was like, 'No!'"
These days, Dawson saves her sultry dance moves for her boyfriend, "Sex and the City's" Absolute Hunk Jason Lewis. So are there any wedding bells in the couple's future?
"Oh geez," Rosario said to Calloway. "Look at you, Mr. Marriage. You're just pushing marriage on people."
Meanwhile, for "Rent" cast member Taye Diggs, the film was literally a labor of love because his wife, Idina Menzel, also appeared in the film.
See all the magic for yourself; "Rent" is now in theaters everywhere.
