Ellen Gives Thanks to the Troops
November 24, 2004 Ellen
DeGeneres proved just how amazing and generous she is
once again on her talk show on Wednesday, giving her
audience the ultimate Thanksgiving gift. During Wednesday's
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Ellen used satellites
to re-connect loved ones separated by the war in Iraq.
"Just talking about it right now makes me emotional,"
DeGeneres admitted to us.
"Happy Thanksgiving," one soldier said to
the camera and his family. "I love you guys, miss
you and will be home soon."
"Oh my gosh, I couldn't speak. It was amazing,"
one of the soldier's wives said.
"I just started crying hysterically," said
another.
"You could see their reactions, see their faces,"
DeGeneres recalled. "Seeing them and hearing them,
and what it must have been like for them."
But that wasn't all Ellen did during her big Thanksgiving
episode -- she had another surprise waiting for the
250 members of her studio audience: a free cruise for
every audience member for them and three of their friends
or family members. "When Celebrity Cruise Ships
say, 'Here, you can have this, and it's worth $1.2 million;'
to give these trips to these families, I wish we could
do stuff like that every day," Ellen told us.
And it's all about the presentation, so Ellen called
on an old friend to help, the one and only Tom Hanks.
So it looks like a very happy Turkey Day for Ellen,
Tom and 250 very lucky audience members.
