Take This Job and Love It
November 3, 2004 Move over Donald Trump -- the FOX network is getting ready to turn business reality TV into funny business. And the guy who hopes to out-trump the Donald is William August. He's the big star of "My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss" -- an actor and lawyer cast as "Mr. Todd," the boss man who'll try to dupe 12 unsuspecting business over-achievers, all looking for a job.
The ratings were certainly there for the original fake-out hit, "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé," so FOX thought it was time to take on the Donald. It's one of a new breed of reality shows that's part scripted and lots of improv. "I've got an executive assistant, I've got a vice president, security guards, limo drivers, and I've got a wife," August told us. "All actors, it's a cast, this is a sitcom."
Then you mix in the 12 very real contestants who think they're vying for a position in Mr. Todd's company, then sit back and enjoy the fireworks. But there is a $250,000 cash prize that's very real. "The TV viewing audience is in on it," August explains. "They're in on the joke, behind the scenes."
"My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss" starts getting down to business, Sunday at 9pm on Fox.
