Leo Uncensored
November 1, 2004

Leonardo DiCaprio is opening up. From his current passion for politics to his chameleon-like career, "Extra" got the details straight from Vanity Fair, where Leo is about to grace the pages.

Leo's ready for people to realize he's much more than that heartthrob kid from "The Titanic," although Vanity Fair's Evgenia Peretz told us, "I don't think Leonardo can deny with a straight face that he's had a lot more fun than most guys."

But Peretz did reveal that Leo admitted he was bullied as a kid. And believe it or not, the star regrets turning down the film "Boogie Nights" for his star-making role in "Titanic."

As far as politics are concerned, Leo's been a constant figure campaigning for John Kerry throughout the past month. "This is the most important election of our lifetime," the star insisted to Vanity Fair.

And on the subject of his hot romance with supermodel Giselle Bundchen, Peretz told us, "He and Giselle are definitely together, but that was not a topic that he really wanted to talk about."

The star was more than excited, however, to talk about "The Aviator," Leo's highly anticipated holiday film about the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes. "He read a book about Howard Hughes when he was 21 and became sort of obsessed with him," Peretz revealed.

DiCaprio also said that during filming, he got so deep in character he felt he was going mad himself, saying, "After the 24th take, I just stopped and said, 'I am losing my <expletive> mind.'"

"In 'The Aviator' he really shows his acting chops on so many different levels," Peretz added.

You can see the multi-dimensional Leo revealed in the December issue of Vanity Fair, on sale next week.
