Sara's Former Nanny Maintains Innocence
October 17, 2006

She's the woman at the center of the Sara Evans divorce scandal.

On Tuesday, an emotional Alison Clinton came straight to "Extra," firing back at Sara's accusations that she committed adultery with Evans' estranged husband, Craig Schelske.

"It just kills me inside," Clinton said of the ordeal. "I cry myself to sleep every night. It's devastating, it absolutely feels like a death; there's just no explanation for it."

In her very first on camera interview, Alison Clinton told her side of the story and revealed why she's now threatening to sue for millions.

"She has to know the truth," Alison said. "She knows me better than that."

Alison and Sara met five years ago when Evans hired Clinton be the couple's nanny. The pair became fast friends. Sara was even the matron of honor at Alison's recent wedding.

"We fell in love with each other, and they became like a second family," Alison said.

Clinton revealed it was an eating disorder, and not an affair with Sara's husband, that forced her to leave her beloved job.

Though she has since recovered, Alison claims Sara's explosive allegations threaten to send her back into a tailspin.

"She knows how traumatic this is. And she knows the repercussions," Alison explained. "My health; I'm struggling, trying not to relapse because of the stress that goes along with this."

On Tuesday night, "Extra" obtained the letter Alison's lawyer sent to the country star demanding she remove Alison's name from the divorce papers and retract the "false allegations."

Alison even went as far to say she's take a lie detector test to prove her innocence.

"I love Craig," Alison admitted. "But he has been nothing but a gentleman to me. He's never been anything more than a mentor."

Meanwhile, Sara's husband rushed to Alison's defense, issuing this statement to "Extra:" "I deeply appreciate the courageous decision of our friend to step forward and tell the truth. No one should go through what Alison is being forced to endure."

But the dispute doesn't end there. "Extra" uncovered Sara's other new bombshell!

The country beauty claims her husband drained $250,000 from their joint bank account the day she filed for divorce.

There are reports that Sara returned to Nashville Tuesday night and hasn't spoken to her husband since the scandal exploded.

But Evans will finally speak out on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday night.
