Lopez Filming Real-life Murder Mystery
October 13, 2005

It is Jennifer Lopez's new passion. "Extra" spotted Lopez with her husband, Marc Anthony, on the set of her dramatic new movie, "Bordertown."

In the movie, Lopez plays a reporter investigating the mostly-unsolved killings of hundreds of women in Mexico. It's a story Jennifer told "Extra" demands to be told: "There's been an ungodly number of murders down there. It's just lawless."

The plot is ripped straight from the headlines. In the past ten years, there have been more than 400 victims of the Juarez murders in the border town right across from El Paso, Texas.

Jennifer says she had an emotional meeting with mothers of some of the victims.

People En Espanol editor Richard Perez-Feria says in this movie, Jennifer Lopez comes full circle as an actress. "With ‘Bordertown,’ Jennifer is returning to her acting roots, to the real gritty roles she did when she was starting out."

The movie is also a homecoming of sorts for Lopez. "Bordertown" is directed by Gregory Nava, who helped launch Jennifer’s movie career in the 1997 film, "Selena."

"Bordertown" marks another true-life story for Jennifer Lopez in her always-evolving career.
