Getting Sweaty with James Denton
October 21, 2004
Primetime's guiltiest pleasure is certainly not without
its resident heartthrob, and "Desperate Housewives"
star James Denton fills that role to perfection on Wisteria
Lane. So "Extra" met up with the star at Sports
Club LA, where we played a little one on one.
"I saw it described as 'the hunky plumber,'" James said of his role. "And I was like, 'Are they replacing me?'"
Hardly. In fact, it's all in a day's work for James,
whose character is being chased by Teri Hatcher and
Nicolette Sheridan. So what's it like to be the odd
man out among the hot housewives? "It's like you
would imagine, it's unbelievable," James admitted.
"As an actor you get the script and it's called
'Desperate Housewives,' and you start looking for a
single guy because you know he's going to get lucky
-- and I got the role. It somehow dropped into my lap.
It's awesome, plus they are good."
And audiences think the show is more than just good. In fact, "Desperate Housewives" is such a hit that ABC gave it the go ahead for a full season.
"I had no idea that Nicolette and Teri were so
funny," Denton told us. "You look at them
and you don't think comedy, but you get on the set with
them and you're always falling apart laughing."
So just how funny was it checking out Teri Hatcher when
her towel came flying off, leaving her naked outside
her house? "She's lying in the bush buck naked,
it's fantastic," Denton laughed. "Teri Hatcher
is so great, she crosses her legs and acts like everything
is fine, she has absolutely no clothes on. And she walked
on the set and said to the crew, 'Here it is. Look at
it. It's going to be all day.'"
And while the housewives keep trying to pin James down, you can catch him for yourself, Sunday nights on ABC.
