Date Night
October 19, 2004

Power couples united Monday night at the Hollywood Film Festival Awards. From the Travoltas and the Beattys to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, love was certainly in the air and the leading men and their leading ladies were kissing and telling all.

"That's what's most important to keep this thing moving and keep it together," Jada Pinkett said while kissing her husband, Will.

Warren Beatty and Annette Bening made a rare appearance to pick up Annette's Best Actress Award for "Being Julia." And when we asked Warren just how proud he is of his beautiful wife, he responded, "Well, how long do you have? I fear her embarrassment, so I can't go on."

Lifetime Award Recipient John Travolta arrived in style with wife Kelly Preston, who revealed how they keep their love alive in Hollywood. "We just keep it honest and keep it fun," Preston said. "Kids help a lot too, they keep you young."

New bride Kate Beckinsale spent much of the night beaming about her new life with Director Len Wiseman. "I'm [doing] great, I'm such a fan of marriage," she told us. "I am becoming very old fashioned; I'm starting to bake."

Onstage, the parade of stars had it looking like the Oscars in October, and could easily be taken as a possible preview of the Academy Awards next spring. Robert Downey Jr. presented his dear friend Mel Gibson with Best Producer honors, and Mel joked about the struggle of bringing "The Passion of the Christ" to the big screen, saying, "This one was a little like the egg and spoon race while running through a gauntlet."

Best Actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Breakthrough Actor Jamie Foxx also tried out their acceptance speeches; Leo's playing Howard Hughes in Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator," while Jamie, of course, is lighting up the screen as Ray Charles in "Ray," Foxx even joked, "I want to thank Will Smith -- for letting Jada Pinkett Smith wear that dress tonight."

And all of the stars will all be dressed to impress come Oscar night, as the race is clearly underway.
