Rodney Dangerfield, 1921 - 2004
October 6, 2004

He was a legend of comedy, with a career that began when he was 15, and covered stand-up, movies, books and more. Today, Rodney Dangerfield passed away, just weeks after slipping into a coma following heart surgery.

The icon of comedy was always joking about not getting any respect, but today, his comrades in comedy gave him all the respect he deserved throughout his career.

"He was a legend in comedy," Jon Lovitz told us. "He was one of the best stand ups ever."

And Cheryl Hines lamented, "He was a great performer and he will be missed."

"I just thought he was a brilliant comedian from the first time I saw him," remembered Paul Reubens.

"He made people laugh until the end," noted Chris Kattan. "And he lived an amazing life making people laugh."

"Very funny, and very sad. He was very supportive of me as a comic, which I really appreciate," Kathy Griffin told us.

But in all the sadness, Jennifer Coolidge reminded us, "No apologies! Rodney Dangerfield was all about not apologizing for anything, and just doing his thing, and I'll really miss him."

So will we all.
