Jennifer's Children's Crusade
October 4, 2004
She's been celebrated across the world for her music and her movies, but Jennifer Lopez received a star's welcome for another reason this weekend in Beverly Hills, as she was honored for her work with children.
Jennifer was honored Saturday night by the organization Noche de Niños, at a gala to benefit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. The always-modest star told us, "It gives me goose pimples to think about it. I don't expect it -- it's a tremendous honor to be able to help in any way and be involved in the hospital. They just never turn away a sick child, that's saying a lot."
Jennifer and her husband, Marc Anthony, have spent much of their time doing everything possible to add to the lives of the children at the hospital, but the couple plans to take a hospital break October 16th, when Anthony will celebrate his 36th birthday.
Marc also performed at Saturday night's benefit, which raised more than $500,000. And Jen fought back tears during her acceptance speech, thanking the medical staff and families of the terminally ill children. "I mean they're relentless, tireless and it's inspiring to me," Lopez said. "Their families, these people are the real heroes and it's just been a wonderful experience for me."
It seems that after her highly publicized breakup with Ben Affleck and her secret wedding to Marc Anthony, everything has finally fallen into place for Lopez. "I'm very happy right now," she told us. "Life is good."
