Bill's Clinton's Comeback
October 1, 2004
Three weeks ago, former president Bill Clinton underwent
lifesaving quadruple bypass surgery. Recently, we spotted
the ex-commander-in-chieflooking slim and trim as he
walked into a neighborhood pharmacy near his home in
Chappaqua, New York, to pick up some medicine before
being whisked away by the secret service.
TV producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is a Clinton insider
and has been in close contact with the former president
since his surgery. "He said it only hurts if he
laughs, breathes or talks," Bloodworth-Thomason
joked. "He just sounds very tired; and I think
this is a long-awaited rest, which he would have given
himself it if he hadn't had to, but we're glad he's
getting it."
Clinton has been recuperating at his home in upstate
New York, and the owner of one of the president's favorite
restaurants, the Chappaqua Restaurant & Café, has spotted
him several times since his surgery. "He's always
handsome, but he looked a little tired and a little
thin," she told us.
Clinton is sticking to a strict diet now. He reportedly
went into a grocery store and bought a carton of low-fat
ice cream, and he's been spotted doing a lot of power
walking.
One neighbor saw Clinton and his wife, Hillary, marching
right by his home. "He looks good," the neighbor
said. "He looked tired, but he was about three-quarters
of a mile from his house."
From the looks of things, Clinton is well on his way
to recovery.
