Sharkspeare in the Park
September 28, 2004
It was a superstar feeding frenzy in New York as the
A-list cast of "Shark Tale" made a splash
at the animated film's world premiere, Monday night.
Making the scene was a virtual Hollywood who's who,
including the movie's stars Angelina Jolie, Will and
Jada Smith, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Michael
Imperioli, and newly dark-haired beauty Renée
Zellweger. Also on hand was songbird Christina Aguilera,
who contributes to the movie's musical soundtrack.
Some of the stars even dressed the part. Angelina looked
sassy in animal prints, and told us it was appropriate,
given her role in the movie: "I am a sassy fish,
so I thought I'd dress sassy."
Angelina told us she had fun playing a bad fish. "I
think she's very sexy," she said of her character.
"She bats her eyes and does all the little things
that I think I do and am very cool about -- instead
I have been exposed."
Renée told us her own resemblance to her character
is a little fishy. "I see the big cheeks now and
then, but that's about it," she said. "My
friends say that's you, but I say, 'no I don't bounce
around like that and wave and bob around,' but they
say I do."
And only "Extra" was at the after-party, where
Tom Cruise hung out with his buddies Will and Jada and
where Renée met her co-stars for the first time.
Since the film's actors all recorded their dialogue
separately, they hadn't ever come face to face before
tonight.
"We have a great relationship and we've never been
in the same room together!" Will laughed.
Angelina and Renée posed with Mary J. Blige and
Missy Elliot, and Christina gave our cameras an eyeful,
but the perfect ending to the tale was when this "Ivy
League School of Fish" all posed together for us.
"Ok, how class picture was that?" joked Renée.
"That was big dog!" Will admitted.
Now that's what we call a catch of the day.
