Emmy VIP (Very Impressive Parties)
September 20, 2004 You
may not know who's going to win, but you can be sure
a big awards show will lead to a big night of parties,
and Sunday's 56th Annual Emmy Awards were no different.
"Extra" hit the town, red paintbrush in hand,
and caught up with the stars shining in the night.
Actually, the partying started Saturday night at the
Entertainment Weekly bash, where stars like Jason Ritter,
Taye Diggs, Aisha Tyler, Peter Gallagher and John Stamos
got into the Emmy weekend mood a bit early.
But that was just a warm-up. After the Emmys on Sunday,
we caught up with Barbara Streisand at the Showtime
party, where she stopped by to talk only to our "Extra"
special correspondent (and her goddaughter) Caleigh
Peters.
"This is my beautiful and brainy and b****y, 3
B's, goddaughter, Caleigh Anne Forsythe Peters,"
Streisand said. "I'm very proud of her. She's very
talented and very gifted."
Streisand was also proud of her husband James Brolin,
who received a nomination for his portrayal of Ronald
Reagan. The couple revealed to us that while making
the movie, their opinion of the former president, as
a man, changed. "I ended up liking him when I finished,"
Brolin revealed. "I really liked him."
Streisand was candid about everything Sunday night,
including her new movie, "Meet the Fockers."
"I'm lazy," Barbra admitted. "I don't
like to work that much and getting up early really is
the pits, but it's a great movie."
Our night on Emmy party patrol continued at the Premiere
party with the big winners of HBO. From "The Sopranos"
to "Angels in America" to the ladies of "Sex
and City," HBO once again had lots of reason to
celebrate.
Cynthia Nixon was beaming after taking home her Emmy
for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and
even her co-star Sarah Jessica Parker told us, "It
was so moving to see her win."
Jessica herself finally took her own Emmy, and told
us how satisfying it was to win after the show's curtain
call, rather than in mid-run.
Our next stop was the Governor's Ball, which quickly
turned into the winner's circle. The "Queer Eye"
guys celebrated, and Brad Garret made news, revealing
to "Extra" that he might be open to starring
in an "Everybody Loves Raymond" spin-off.
"I'm hoping, but it's something that's hard to
conceive," he admitted.
Next up was the FOX party, where our "American
Idols" danced the night away, maintaining their
good spirits despite leaving empty handed. And we went
straight to Mr. Mean himself, Simon Cowell, to get his
take on losing to "The Amazing Race" -- for
the second time.
"It must be a better show than ours," Simon
said, although he admitted he's never seen the show.
So whether they were big winners or not, the Emmy Awards
were certainly a night for the stars to let their hair
down and celebrate.
And what's a party without some party favors -- and
we've got one for you. Guests at the Entertainment Weekly
bash took home a Revlon gift bag, and so can you --
