How You Doin'? You're Fired!
September 10, 2004 Must-See
Thursday nights are back as NBC finally helped fill
the void left in all of our hearts since "Friends"
said goodbye last season. And if the hilarious half
hour of "Joey" wasn't enough, we also got
to hear Trump state his infamous catchphrase once again.
Oh yes, it was a good night of TV.
After a summer of speculation, LeBlanc proved he could
grab huge ratings even without his "Friends,"
as "Joey" pulled in 18 million fans for the
series premiere. "I feel like somebody up there
likes me," Matt admitted. "It's been all really
good stuff happening one after the other. I'm kind of
waiting for the roof to cave in."
And "Extra's" proud to say that our own Ethan
Erickson played a part in the smash hit, playing an
actor who steps into one of Joey's acting roles. "The
buzz in Hollywood seems to be right on the money most
of the time, and there has been a buzz, it seems, about
this show," Ethan said.
NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told us this
morning that "Joey's" new LA beginnings are
a good omen for the network: "It was the highest
rated show on any network in eight years at eight o'clock,
with our young audience."
And "Joey" wasn't the only good news for NBC
-- the King of New York was also back in business, as
Donald Trump opened up the boardroom for season two
of "The Apprentice." More than 14 million
people tuned in to see the new batch of wannabe entrepreneurs
split into two teams and create a new toy.
Team Apex's winning car design spelled doom for Rob,
who blamed his failure to being underutilized on the
project, but seemed in good spirits when we talked to
him this morning, as he imitated The Donald's voice,
saying, "It's the biggest and the best show in
the world. Five hundred million, billion people applied."
Team Apex's toy, the Morph Machine, will be on store
shelves next year for about $30.
So while Thursday night may have meant so long for Rob,
we're sure NBC is counting on many more happy returns
from "Joey" and "The Apprentice."
