If This is Wednesday, This Must Be Berlin
September 1, 2004
Tom Cruise’s passport has gotten a serious workout lately as he's toured the world promoting his new movie "Collateral," and "Extra’s" been with on every stop of the tour.
Cruise is on the road with co-star Jada Pinkett Smith and director Michael Mann. Co-star Jamie Foxx has the flu and will join the group in London. We’ve also learned that while in Madrid, Spain, Tom had lunch with his ex-girlfriend, Penélope Cruz. The two have remained close friends.
Our next stop was Berlin, Germany, where Tom made the surprising announcement that he wouldn't mind stepping behind the camera. "One day I might read a piece of material and think, 'I've got to direct this,'" Cruise told us. "He will," Mann added.
Tom was awarded a "Berlin Bear" by the town's mayor, and per usual, he graciously posed for pictures and signed autographs. "I’m very generous, I like people," he told us.
But Tom also revealed there are times when fans should not come up to him: "I'll go out and I’ll pose for pictures. I'm happy to sign autographs and talk. But when I'm with my children, that's a different deal."
Tom also spoke candidly about his relationship with the paparazzi. "Some of them are very nice and professional. They get the shot and leave," he said. "And then there's a point at which you go, 'Hold it, you're being like a stalker now. This is not okay.’"
Up next on the Tom world cruise: London, Venice and Moscow, and "Extra" will be with the star every step of the way -- and be sure to check out Wednesday’s edition of "Extra" or the video version of this story for footage from Tom’s personal home movies of his time in Paris.
