Madonna Suffers Broken Bones in Accident
August 16, 2005

Madonna is on the mend today after a frightening horseback riding accident left her with cracked ribs, a broken hand and a broken collar bone.

The pop queen was at her estate in Ashcome, England, which was photographed in the August issue of Vogue magazine, to celebrate her 47th birthday. Friends were stopping by with gifts and flowers for the star, but the special occasion went terribly wrong when Madonna left the estate with her assistant for a horseback ride.

According to Madonna's spokesperson Liz Rosenberg, the singer, "Took a tumble from the horse, one that she wasn't accustomed to riding."

"Extra" has learned that her children, Rocco and Lourdes, were home at the time and the injured superstar was rushed to the hospital by her husband Guy Ritchie.

Madonna and Ritchie were spotted in Los Angeles just last Saturday where they visited the Kabbalah center and had dinner with friends.

Madonna was due to be released from the hospital Tuesday night, but it looks as though she'll be staying in England for the near future while she recuperates.
