Alec Gets Honest About Love, Divorce and Politics
August 31, 2004
Alec Baldwin's new movie, in which he stars with Matthew
Broderick, is called "The Last Shot," a true-life
story about the mob and the movies. And when we sat
down with the Oscar-nominee, he took some surprising
shots of his own, at...
Politics
As a prominent figure throughout the Democratic National
Convention earlier this month, Baldwin hasn't kept his
desire to see John Kerry become president a secret.
But his brother, Stephen, is throwing his weight behind
George W. Bush at the Republican National Convention
this week. So has the political opposition caused any
kind of rift between the brothers? "Not yet,"
Alec laughed.
Paparazzi
Baldwin's brother Daniel plays an aggressive paparazzo
in the new movie "Paparazzi," a subject Alec's
too well familiar with, considering his run-in with
a photographer staking out his home, a few years back.
But Alec told us, "That was self defense. I thought
he was going to hit me with a camera that was in his
right hand, so bang, I hit him with a left."
The Pain of Divorce
Alec's taken some heavy hits of his own during his divorce
from Kim Basinger and their bitter custody battle over
their 8-year-old daughter, Ireland.
"That was really painful, really hard," Baldwin
admitted. "But you learn, and the one thing you
hope is that it doesn't negatively impact you permanently."
So is the actor ready to jump back on the marriage wagon?
"I'm certainly in no rush to go out and get married
again," he said. "I think I would one day.
I just feel like I would take it so seriously next time.
Something I'd never do casually."
The Love of His Life
Alec says the most meaningful relationship in his life
these days is with daughter Ireland. "A friend
of mine said the greatest thing to me," Baldwin
shared with us. "He said, 'The only time I see
that you are a completely different person is when you're
with your daughter.' And it's really true."
Baldwin's ex, Kim, also recently told us just how much
their daughter means to her, telling us, "She's
been my teacher and a guide and really a force in my
life to face so many of my fears."
And you can see what Alec's like as a cunning FBI agent
when "The Last Shot" opens September 24th.
