McGraw: A Star of All Trades
August 25, 2004 He
has yet another hit single riding the top of the charts
and a hot new his-and-hers movie career with superstar
"Stepford Wife" Faith Hill. But it’s Tim McGraw’s
just-released CD, "Live like You Were Dying,"
which he places at the top of his accomplishments.
"I feel like this record with my band, with all
the production and everything, is the best record I’ve
ever done," he insisted.
The King of Country also revealed that making the record
helped mend his broken heart after the recent death
of his dad, baseball legend "Tug" McGraw.
"We went into the studio probably three weeks after
dad died, so to be up there with my friends in the studio
making music, it made everything a little closer to
everyone," Tim told us. "So I think it was
a good experience. I purged myself of it."
"Extra" met up with McGraw Tuesday in Hollywood
for his record release party at the House of Blues,
where Tim graciously greeted his fans as he took to
the air waves for his host, Los Angeles radio station
KZLA.
And while his new CD is expected to rocket to number
one, Tim's also making a double-barreled acting debut
in back-to-back movies over the next few months, one
of which is "Friday Night Lights," with Billy
Bob Thornton.
So did Thornton give McGraw any pointers? "He wouldn't
give me any advice," Tim said. "He wouldn't
help me out at all. He's said, ‘You don't need my help,
you'll be alright.’"
But at least Tim now has his famous Mrs. to turn to
for acting tips. So could a film together be in the
couple’s future? "I hope so," McGraw revealed.
"That would be good for both of us to do that."
And with both their busy careers in full flight it'd
be one way this red-hot husband-and-wife showbiz team
would get the chance to spend time together.
