Gibson Puts His Passion Toward ‘Paparazzi’
August 25, 2004 A scorned Hollywood movie star murders members of the media. Sounds like a winner to us -- and that's just the premise of Mel Gibson’s new thriller, "Paparazzi."
Gibson produced the film, which shows fans the seedy side of celebrity life that they've never seen before. Rising star Cole Hauser plays the rampaging action hero in the film, and he told us that Gibson himself gave him the call of his career.
"He basically called me and said, ‘Look I think
you're the man for the job. I believe you could be this
person and are capable of doing the things he has to
do,’" Hauser said.
But Mel didn't stop there. In one of the industry's all-time "only in Hollywood" stories, he made his longtime hair stylist Paul Abascal the director of the film. "He’s a man with a lot of power and saw how serious I was about it and says, ‘I’m going to give you a shot, don’t mess up,’" Abascal revealed.
By all accounts, Abascal made Mel look like a visionary and the director credits the real-life action hero for teaching him how to run a set. "I try to have a good time, be serious, but keep the mood light," Abascal revealed.
"Paparazzi" opens September 3rd.
