Hollywood Takes Aim at President Bush
August 24, 2004
As Election Day approaches, some of Tinseltown's biggest
stars are participating in an explosive new 10-part
ad campaign targeting the president. The campaign is
an all-out blitz by MoveOn PAC, and it's using the talents
of Martin Sheen, Moby, Kevin Bacon and Scarlett Johansen,
among others, to get out the vote.
You'll see Rebecca Romijn-Stamos on camera, saying, "Republicans would never create the largest budget deficits in history, would they?"
And Oscar-winner Matt Damon uses his voice to convince voters, warning, "George Bush, it's his job or yours."
Director Rob Reiner even uses the president's own speech to make a case against re-election, replaying Bush comment, "I don't want to sound like I've made no mistakes, I'm confident that I have."
John Kerry hasn't made a public comment about the campaign, but Bush won't be happy. Only yesterday the president lashed out at Kerry's advertising style, saying, "I think they're bad for the system."
Nevertheless, when it comes to star power, it seems the Republicans are taking a page out of the Democrats' book: the upcoming GOP convention's guest list will include stars like Bo Derek, Wayne Newton and Stephen Baldwin.
Meanwhile, celebrity relations may have brought first lady Laura Bush under fire today. Reports claim Mrs. Bush got hip-hop mogul P. Diddy bumped from the guest list Sunday at a charity event in Cincinnati. "Extra" contacted both sides today, and both deny that's what happened. The first lady's office said, "We don't have anything to do with who is in the show or not." P. Diddy says he bowed out due to an unexpected personal obligation.
So with seven days left until the Republican convention,
it looks like Hollywood's got its eye on the commander
in chief.
