'The Bachelor' Will Have You Seeing Double
August 23, 2004
"The Bachelor" is headed back to ABC, but
not before getting an extreme makeover. While former
young guns Alex, Aaron, Andrew, Bob and Jesse may have
played the game solo, this time -- for the very first
time -- two men will vie for the one woman's heart.
Professional bass fisherman Byron Velvick and real estate
agent Jay Overbye both want to be "The Bachelor,"
but in an unprecedented Rose Ceremony, the Bachelorettes
will choose which one goes and which one gets to court
them.
"I think everything happens for a reason, it's
kind of a destiny if you will," Byron said. "If
you find your soul mate and if one of us finds our soul
mate through the show, we'll be very fortunate."
And when it comes to making the choice between them,
Byron says there are no similarities: "We're totally
different and we know that we're totally different in
what we bring to the table and who we are."
Before the Bachelorettes vote, "Extra" gave
the two 40-year-old contenders a shot to make a case
for themselves. "I don't see myself as the knight
in shining armor to every woman in the country by any
means," Byron said. "I just want to find the
right woman, it's not the quantity, it's the quality."
Meanwhile, Jay told us, "The most important decision
I make in my life right now is to get married."
Whether they find the right woman or not, these two
bachelors say at least they know they'll be friends
forever. "I love you man," Bryon said to Jay,
mock tearfully. "Dude, you're the best," Jay
joked back.
"The Bachelor" begins September 22nd on ABC.
