Backstage With Alicia Keys
August 19, 2004
It seems no one can get enough Alicia Keys. She's up for three Video Music Awards later this month, but first the superstar gave "Extra" an exclusive and intimate look at her European tour, thanks to her video tour diary.
Alicia shot the personal portrait during her two-month whirlwind trip across Europe. The tour was non-stop, but Keys, a native New Yorker, still managed to make time for sight-seeing in places like Barcelona (which she calls "incredible"), Palermo and Monte Carlo.
Backstage, Alicia lets viewers in on her last minute warm-ups and shows how she pampers her powerful voice with a unique soothing treatment, saying, "What this is, is vapor, it's like menthol and it really opens up your throat."
Alicia catches all her personal moments on tape. In
Lucca, Italy, we even get a backstage glimpse of Alicia's
private group prayer, and how she always makes time
for her devoted fans. "I have to tell you my Italian:
'Ciao, come stai,' I'm practicing for you," she
says. "Even when we don't speak the same language,
we always understand each other, I love that."
After two months, 35 cities and one very talented lady, Alicia can definitely say, "I don't think any of us have seen Europe like this!"
