Will Ferrell Campaigns With Comedy
August 19, 2004
The race for president has a new face, and it belongs to Will Ferrell. The hilarious actor is starring as George W. Bush, a role he perfected on "Saturday Night Live," for the Internet commercial spoof called "White House West," put together by the voter organization group, America Coming Together.
The send-up has already been downloaded more than1.5 million times, but Ferrell's not making a dime. He wrote the script and donated over six hours of his time on a Sunday to shoot it, according to Executive Producer Julie Bergman.
"He treated it as he would treat any other job that he was doing," Bergman told us. "He was really professional and I think everybody had a really good time."
Ironically, the real President Bush was at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, Thursday, as voters logged onto funnyman Ferrell's wicked impression. Meanwhile, Contender Kerry hasn't commented on the political parody, but it looks like Ferrell could do wonders for his campaign.
Among the stars that donated money to the group that made the ad are Bruce Springsteen and Bonnie Raitt.
