Washington Goes West
August 12, 2004
With strong celebrity support, John
Kerry is without a doubt leading Washington's
invasion into Hollywood, but President
Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger
are also in Tinseltown, wooing voters and raising money.
Cuba Gooding, Jr. told us he was one
of the first people to learn Kerry was thinking of running
for the White House. "I'm a Kerry supporter,"
Cuba told us. "I had lunch with him five years
ago when he was just thinking about running for president.
It was cool. I liked what he had to say."
Some of Hollywood's heavy hitters are jumping on John
Kerry's bandwagon, including Leonardo DiCaprio,
who we've learned will spend a lot of time with the
Kerry campaign.
At the Hollywood Foreign Press luncheon, Mark
Wahlberg told us he's also a Kerry supporter.
"I'm trying to influence as many young people as
I can to vote," he added.
And when we sat down with legendary singers, David
Crosby and Graham
Nash, who are making a tongue-in-cheek
bid for the White House to coincide with the release
of their new album, the duo shared their unorthodox
platforms with us: they want to double teachers' salaries,
give away free money and they promise they can pronounce
the word "nuclear."
"It's a funny idea in this political climate," Nash told us.
And in Hollywood, the climate is heating up as the candidates woo the stars.
