Star Choices in the City of Angels
August 12, 2004 With
so many hot spots in Los Angeles, it's almost impossible
to narrow down the best of the best. But with the help
of Hal Sparks, we managed to do just that -- from fresh
fish, to hip Hollywood hangouts to a symphony of stars,
we bring you the city's best.
Our first stop was the sushi joint Hamasaku,
where owner Toshi Kihara hosts the likes of Angelina
Jolie, Harrison Ford and Arnold Schwarzenegger. "That
is the most spectacular piece of fish I've ever seen
in my life," Sparks insisted. "If you're going
to Hamasaku, you're going to need to know one phrase:
'ushi.' That means delicious."
Next, we hit up Mr. Chow in Beverly
Hills, which is the "in" spot for A-list celebrity
spotting. From Robert De Niro to P. Diddy to Jennifer
Lopez, this is definitely the playground for Hollywood's
hippest stars.
"Mr. Chow has so many beautiful celebrities in
it that I feel like a troll when I go there," Hal
admitted, joking: "I'm evil, do not look upon me,
I'm ugly and viciously disgusting."
Head Maitre D Chris Denton explained that at Mr. Chow
and its sister spot, Eurochow, in West LA, the stars
always receive the VIP treatment. "The stars come
here for great food and a great time," he told
us.
And after eating, how about some entertainment? Our
last stop was the Walt Disney Concert Hall
in Downtown Los Angeles, where mega-stars filled the
place for its grand opening. From the Spielbergs to
Catherine Zeta-Jones to Tom Hanks, all the stars loved
the stunningly designed hall, in which the acoustics
are second to none.
"This is like asking, like being asked to ride
the first elevator at the Eiffel Tower," said Hanks.
"It's sad when you go up there, and Mickey tells
you the orchestra pit seats are sold out," Hal
joked.
So congrats to Hamasaku, Mr. Chow and the Disney Hall,
because you top our Best of LA list.
