Crazy Like the Foxx: Jamie Heats Up Hollywood
August 5, 2004
"Collateral" week continues and today we go one-on-one with Jamie Foxx to learn what’s going down with the funny man who’s set to become one of Hollywood’s top dogs.
Jamie teams up with mega-star Tom Cruise in "Collateral," and the on-screen pairing has sparked a killer friendship off screen. "He’s one of the most well-adjusted millionaires you’ll ever meet," Jamie says of Tom.
And Jamie told us Tom was a treat to work with, "He's at the top of the food chain. He doesn't have to be nice to you. I’ve seen people with HBO specials and the next day they have 12 body guards and you have to talk to them through their publicists."
Jamie first met Tom when auditioning for "Jerry Maguire." The role went to Cuba Gooding, Jr. instead, who walked away with an Oscar for his performance. Says Foxx, "I always did the joke about Cuba getting my Oscar."
But now with "Collateral" and Foxx’s latest
project "Ray Charles" coming out, it's looking
like Oscar buzz may belong to Jamie. "If that comes
with ‘Collateral’ or ‘Ray Charles,’ you know how I am.
I will be at the after party with it right on my chain,"
promised Jamie. "I'm going to stay that guy, that
Jamie Foxx guy that looks at life still to this day
like, ‘Man, what's going to happen next?’ What beautiful,
great thing is going to happen next?"
What’s next for now is "Collateral," in theaters August 6th.
