Rob Lowe on TV, Vacation and... Presidents?
August 3, 2004
Get ready for a double dose of sexy Rob Lowe this fall on CBS, as he's preparing to bring you a TV movie and a new series.
We went behind the scenes of the actor's made-for-TV romantic comedy, "Perfect Strangers," in which Rob plays a Cary Grant-type who falls in love with a British girl, played by Anna Friel. But the always-modest actor insisted, "I can't come close to Mr. Grant, that's for sure."
But what intrigued us most about the star was the hidden talent he showed off -- his knack for impressions. While clowning around the set with Anna, Lowe came close to pulling off some perfect impressions. "He delivered a few Bill Clinton impressions during my close up," Friel remembered.
So we had to see for ourselves. And in his best Clinton voice, Lowe said, "Well, I hope everybody is going to read that book, I do. Ya know, I've been working, and a lot of people said I wouldn't, but I did. I worked on it. It's good."
And he doesn't do a bad President Reagan either: "'Well, there you go again.' That's about as good as I can do with President Reagan."
These days Lowe's career is also about as good as it gets. This fall he'll headline the new CBS drama, "Dr. Vegas," a career decision that he claims was the best medicine for his family.
"One of the reasons why I love series television is I get to stay in Southern California," Lowe told us. "So I am around for the Christmas pageants, and Halloween trick-or-treating and parent-teacher conferences."
But before he dives into the primetime line up, the Lowe family is kicking back this summer. "We're going to scuba dive, fish and lie on a beach," he revealed. "Do nothing. No phones. No anything. Just reading and fishing."
Enjoy yourself, Rob -- you've got a busy fall coming.
