Sheryl Crow Opens Up about Turbulent Year
July 5, 2006
Sheryl Crow is finally breaking her silence about her breast cancer battle and her breakup with fiancé Lance Armstrong.
While it’s been a rough few months, Sheryl doesn’t hold a grudge against Armstrong. “I’m not angry,” she admitted. “I mean honestly, I look at it and I know I can’t be angry at Lance for being who he is. He’s a great person.”
In her first in-depth interview since the double-dose of heartache she suffered last winter, Sheryl opens up to Diane Sawyer and shoots down the rumor that Armstrong, a cancer survivor himself, broke up with her after her diagnosis.
As the tabloids say, “When she found out she was sick, he vanished, he deserted, and he abandoned her.”
“She says absolutely not,” Sawyer revealed. “That they had broken up, and two and a half weeks later this news comes, and of course he’s extremely concerned for her.”
“It was really difficult,” Sheryl admitted. “Really difficult for both of us.”
So why did Lance and Sheryl break up nearly six months after announcing their engagement?
“She’s very clear that the two of them were at different points in their lives,” Sawyer disclosed. “It was not a fight, she says, it was not a sudden thing. It was just a widening fissure and at some point somebody wasn’t going to be able to jump across.”
