Wedding Bells Ring for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
June 26, 2006
Newlyweds Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban spent the day after their wedding at a Sydney hotel, where they stayed before jetting off to the secluded island of Fiji for a romantic honeymoon.
"Extra" has learned that Nicole reportedly broke down in tears as she became Mrs. Keith Urban. And the feeling was mutual. "When Keith Urban saw her come in looking so radiant, he started crying as well," reveals People magazine's Jess Cagle.
The Hollywood screen goddess looked like a fairy tale princess, starting her wedding procession riding with her father in a cream colored Bentley.
She wowed the crowd of fans as she rode over to Sydney's iconic Harbor Bridge to the formal Catholic ceremony at a seaside church.
But "Extra" found out there was a couture crisis for Nicole with her stunning ivory, empireorganza Balenciaga gown right before the ceremony.
The dress didn't fit properly and a seamstress had to rush over to do an alteration.
Two hundred and thirty guests attended the joyous celebration, some arriving by bus. The A-listers included Hugh Jackman, who performed at the reception, Nicole's adopted children with Tom Cruise, Isabella and Connor, and Russell Crowe and Rupert Murdoch, who gave a speech together.
"The wedding was all white," Cagle added. "The reception had a passion theme, so there were red roses on the tables and red carnations hanging from the chandeliers."
Cagle told us that Nicole broke down in tears as Keith serenaded her with his hit song, "Memories of Us." "It was a real moment when he sang that song to her," a guest revealed. "You could hear a pin drop."
The invitation to the exclusive event, which was reprinted in an Aussie newspaper, was formal, and sent out by Nicole's parents.
Shortly after saying "I Do," Nic and Keith released their official wedding photo along with a heartfelt statement that said, "We just want to thank everyone in Australia and around the world who have sent us their warm wishes."
Warm wishes were also flooded in from Keith's big bro, Shane Urban, who revealed, "I feel very proud of my young brother."
Nicole's ex, Tom Cruise, hasn't yet issued a formal statement, but his reps told "Extra" on Monday that he's very happy for them.
While Nicole and Keith's marriage is something from the pages of a fairytale, how did the Oscar-winning actress and country singer meet? "Extra's" got the tape!
Nic and Keith met at an Australian-sponsored "Good Day LA" dinner in 2005, where Keith was being honored.
We've uncovered a long-lost Keith Urban interview with "Extra" from 2002, where he wondered when he would find the one. "They say when you aren't looking for it, you find it," he had said.
It looks like Keith finally found it.
On Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Urban are said to have jetted off on Nicole's private plane to a secluded honeymoon. Papers in Sydney report they are spending $183,000 to rent out an ultra-exclusive island resort away from the prying eyes of the relentless paparazzi.
