Meryl Streep is 'The Devil Wears Prada'
June 19, 2006

It's Meryl Streep's most "Devilish" role yet as the white-haired woman with a red-hot temper in "The Devil Wears Prada."

"My daughter looked over to me in the screening and said, 'It's the real you,'" Meryl revealed. "That's why you have teenagers: to keep you humble."

But when our Tanika Ray sat down with the legendary actress to talk about "Devil," she found Ms. Meryl to be nothing short of absolutely angelic.

In the movie, based on the best-selling book, Meryl stars as a ruthless New York fashion magazine editor who lands a new assistant played by Anne Hathaway.

The book character was loosely based on Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, but Meryl had a different inspiration for the movie. "The people, in my experience, who are very, very, very powerful are men," she revealed. "So, I looked to a lot of them."

And what about the fashion industry stereotypes of stick-thin models? When Tanika brought up the size factor, Meryl had only this to say: "I hope we make clear that we think it's obnoxious."

Meryl personally dealt with the fashion industry's obsession with size when she tried losing weight for the movie. "I tried and then I said, 'F*** it.' It's just too hard, and I'm happy," she confessed.

"The Devil Wears Prada" opens June 30 nationwide.
