Denise Takes a Stand against Public Betrayal
May 3, 2006
Denise Richards is speaking out for the first time since she landed smack in the center of Tinseltown's newest scandal.
In an exclusive interview with TMZ.com, Richards declared that she never romanced Heather Locklear's soon-to-be ex, Richie Sambora, while they were still married.
"I'm sad that Heather has portrayed it differently," Denise said. "Heather knows why and when her marriage ended with Richie, and she knows when and why my marriage ended with Charlie."
Heather and Denise were close friends before the love triangle surfaced. "I wish Heather well and happiness," Richards said. "It's really unfortunate that it has gotten to this point, and Heather knows why we aren't friends. I'm not going to get into that."
"I understand why she's hurt as well," Denise continued. "And it's very uncomfortable, and it is upsetting. It's unfortunate."
TMZ.com managing editor Harvey Levin scored the interview of the year, and he has the scoop on what may have really caused the Heather and Denise rift.
"One of the big things that really destroyed the relationship is when Heather hired Charlie Sheen's lawyer for her divorce," Levin said. "That fractured the friendship."
Denise also went on the record about her dirty divorce from Charlie Sheen, who told "Extra" that Denise's shocking court allegations that he threatened her were vicious lies.
"It's extremely unfortunate," Richards told TMZ. "It's very sad. I made by declaration under oath. I stand by it, and I know he and I will get through this."
Meanwhile, Denise's former best friend came out of hiding. Only "Extra" caught up with Locklear at a Los Angeles mall, but she wasn't talking about her own rumored new romance with David Spade.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of the Heather-David-Denise-Richie-Charlie soap opera.
