There's no doubt that eating breakfast is crucial, but convenience could cost you. Attention all you Egg McMuffin lovers: Hungry Girl's Lisa Lillien has some morning breakfast facts that may give you the urge to slam on the brakes!
"You could very well take in 600 to 1,000 calories and dozens of fat grams you just don't need," Lillien explained.
Here are some healthy alternatives to your favorite fast food breakfast items:
A McDonald's Egg McMuffin has 300 calories and 12 grams of fat. But with the Hungry-Girl way, it's not quite as sinful!
"You take a light English muffin, put a slice of fat-free cheese on it, some egg whites or egg beaters and a couple slices of thinly sliced ham," Lillien suggested. The calorie consumption doesn't compare. This healthy alternate has only 165 calories and 1.5 grams of fat.
A Carl's Junior Breakfast Burrito has a whopping 560 calories and tons of fat. Hungry-Girl's breakfast burrito will rock your world without ruining your waistline, with only 200 calories and 5.5 grams of fat.
Burger King's French Toast Sticks are basically French Fries in the morning, with 390 calories and 20 grams of fat. Trade those in for Cinnamonlicious French Toast Sticks made with light bread, egg beaters, Splenda cinnamon sugar and topped with light syrup.
If you are craving something sweet, take a bite without guilt with fat-free cinnamon rolls for 110 calories, a Vitamuffin for 200 calories or a Western Bagel. "These alternative bagels have just 110 calories each and all of these are high in fiber," Lillien revealed.
It looks like breakfast just got a whole lot better! For more information on these healthy tips and to sign up for Hungry Girl's FREE daily emails, log on to Hungry-Girl.com.
