Get Ready for Blockbuster Season!
March 24, 2005
With sci-fi thrillers, the first Oscar contender
and a batch of big-budget remakes, it's going
to one hot summer at the movies. And to help you
form your must-see list, "Extra" enlisted
the help of Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor
Relations, a firm that tracks box office revenue.
So get set, here are some top films that are bound
to be movie titans come summertime:
"War of the Worlds"
Tom Cruise teams up with Steven Spielberg
to take on attacking aliens in this special effects
spectacular. "We should see some potentially
record-breaking grosses for this film," Paul
predicted.
"Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith"
Another sure summer blockbuster is "The
Star Wars" prequel, about which Dergarabedian
said, "George Lucas directing a "Star
Wars" movie is always a big deal."
"Batman Begins"
The masked crusader is back in "Batman
Begins" with an all-new director and a new
"Batman," played by Christian Bale.
"Herbie Fully Loaded"
The talking car is back, and it's the
perfect excuse to make a date with your entire
family. Lindsay Lohan stars in the fun and action-filled
flick.
"Charlie and The Chocolate Factory"
Johnny Depp is reworking Gene Wilder's
classic Willy Wonka role for director Tim Burton
in this must-see film. Also starring in the remake
is "Finding Neverland's" Freddy Highmore,
and you can bet, watching will be candy for your
eye.
"Bewitched"
From remakes to TV classics, the hit
'60s show "Bewitched" is coming to the
big screen starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell.
So twitch your nose and ask for some popcorn,
because this is one flick you won't want to miss.
"Stealth"
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is back in his
first film since "Ray," and he's in
a very different role. "It's more of a 'Top
Gun' type of movie," Paul revealed. "It's
with stealth fighters, an action packed movie."
"Cinderella Man"
Paul predicts that "Cinderella
Man" may be this summer's first Oscar contender.
"You see Russell Crow in that role and Ron
Howard directing," he noted. "This looks
like an unbeatable combination." Also starring
in the film are Renée Zellweger and Paul
Giamatti.
So buy your popcorn in bulk and get your tickets
early -- from the looks of these films, it's going
to be one hot summer at the box office.
