Get Onboard the Award Train!
March 11, 2005
It's time to jump on the Soul Train -- the Soul Train Music Awards that is. And even before the train was out of the station, "Extra" had a ticket to ride with music's hottest stars, who brought bling fashion to the sparkling red carpet.
"They wanted a little edge; they got a little edge," Usher said of his fashion choice.
But "American Idol" Fantasia Barrino proved looking hot can have its drawbacks. "I can't bust it in this dress because it's so tiny," she told us.
Beautiful Vivica A. Fox had the sparkle going on, and
she let "Extra" in on her Soul Train flashback
secret: "I actually was a dancer on 'Soul Train,'
so I got to shake my little thing on the risers!"
Inside, "Extra's" Brian McKnight, who
also performed at the event, got to shake it on
stage. And our own Jon Kelley got to present alongside
sexy sensation Mya.
Usher took home the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year, and it was one hot night for Ice Cube, who went home with the biggest honor: the Quincy Jones Lifetime Achievement Award.
We caught up with Cube backstage just moments after his big win. "Man, it feels good to be recognized by Soul Train," he said.
Onstage, Fantasia showed off the pipes that won her last season's "American Idol," and judge Paula Abdul watched like a proud mom. "I'm happy to see Fantasia do her thing," Paula told us. "She's living her dream."
See all of the night's big winners when the 19th Annual Soul Train Music Awards air Saturday!
