All Eyes on Oprah and Halle
March 3, 2005 Oprah
Winfrey and Halle Berry took over Hollywood Wednesday
night to promote their TV movie, "Their Eyes Were
Watching God," and producer Oprah was still ecstatic
over being able to recruit Halle for the role.
"[Halle] was the ticket," Oprah insisted.
"The moment you say we have Halle Berry, come on
in."
And Oscar winner Halle was just as excited to work with
the daytime queen. Her first reaction after Oprah contacted
her? "Yes, okay, when do we start?"
But Halle may have gotten more than she bargained for
from her co-star Michael Ealy, whose break out role
was in "Barbershop." Since filming together,
rumors have swirled that the pair is now dating. So
what makes him so special? "Those blue eyes help
a lot," Berry admitted. "But he's also got
a great character."
So are the rumors true that their on-screen passion
has continued off screen? Ealy set the record straight:
"I've got to grow up a little bit first before
I go there."
As for Halle, she says you can't believe everything
you hear: "If they knew what they were talking
about it wouldn't be so bad, but usually they don't."
And Oprah is backing up her girl: "You know Halle
says they're all just friends. I don't know if I would
be just friends!"
Meanwhile, Oprah's post-Oscar show was the highest-rated
"Oprah" of the season. "The fact that
Jamie and Hilary and Chris all showed up the next day
that was good, really great," Winfrey said.
Oprah is also headed back to the big screen, joining
good friend Julia Roberts in "Charlotte's Web."
"Julia is Charlotte, and I'm Gussie the g-g-g-goose,"
Oprah revealed. "I play a stuttering goose."
"Charlotte's Web" hits theatres next summer,
and "Their Eyes Were Watching God" airs Sunday
night on ABC.
