Behind the Scenes of the 'Dancing with the Stars' Finale
February 27, 2006
After 20 show-stopping performances and a handful of perfect scores, Drew Lachey and partner Cheryl Burke danced their way to victory on the season finale of "Dancing with the Stars." And after being in big brother Nick's shadow for so many years, Drew is reveling in the spotlight.
"I'm happy to take a little of the pressure off of him," Drew said. "He has been getting the short-end for a while. It's great just to be able to perform and get out here and do what I love doing, which is entertaining people."
Drew's very pregnant wife, Lea, was in the audience rooting him on every step of the way, and soon the couple will have another trophy to coo over! "It's going to be a busy couple of weeks here," Drew said. "But I'm definitely ready to move from this baby to my baby."
Although viewers and judges unanimously agreed Drew was king of the dance floor, in a shocking twist that's the talk of Tinseltown, viewers voted Stacy Keibler off the show after she earned a perfect score from the judges, leaving everyone dumbfounded over the decision.
"She was an amazing dancer," Judge Bruno Tonioli said. "But nevertheless, I don't think Stacy has lost anything, because you cannot knock that quality."
Stacy remained upbeat as she graciously congratulated Drew and Cheryl just moments after her third-place shocker. "I think they deserved it," she said. "I think they did great. I will be friends with Drew and Cheryl forever."
After being eliminated, Stacy even soothed the nervous of Jerry Rice before his final dance. "When Stacy got kicked off the first hour, she had to calm me down," Rice admitted.
Jerry and his partner, Anna Trebunskaya, snagged a second-place win, while Jerry's wife, Jackie, cheered him on.
So, is Jackie ever jealous watching Anna shake her stuff right in front of her husband night after night? "No, I can shake it too!" she confessed.
Now that the season is over, the three tough judges are looking to the future, hoping to open a dance studio. And Judge Bruno has even bigger dreams: "When Schwarzenegger goes, I'm going to go for governor."
"Dancing with the Stars" returns for another sizzling season this summer, and "Extra" will keep you up to date on all the new two-steppin' celebrities.
