Countdown to Oscar: Your Ultimate Red Carpet Forecast
February 27, 2006

The Academy Awards are less than a week away, and everyone is wondering who will take home Oscar. But there's an even bigger competition than Best Film -- who will walk away with the Best Dressed honors? "Extra" has your ultimate guide to Oscar elegance.

"This year it's going to be all about the dress," said Galina Espinoza, senior editor of People magazine. And while you say hello to beautiful confections made of luxurious silks and satins, say bye-bye to heavy accessories!

"What we've been seeing throughout awards season is very minimal jewelry," Espinoza said. But with such bright star power among the leading ladies, they don't need any bling to make them shine; this year's style queens will make big statements with their fashionable frocks.

According to Espinoza, ravishing Reese Witherspoon will mix it up this year. "She likes to go for cocktail length dresses," Espinoza said. "She'll probably wear something a little longer for the Oscars; though not necessarily floor length."

What about nominee Felicity Huffman? "I think we can expect her to go for a bold dress on Oscar night," Espinoza revealed. "One that really calls attention."

But the starlet that all the designers are clamoring to dress is drop-dead gorgeous Keira Knightley. "Here's why," Espinoza told us. "She's young, she's gorgeous and she knows how to pull off sophisticated gowns."

As for the men, we asked Espinoza about Clooney's comment that he's worn the same tux for ten years.

"I don't know if George Clooney wears the same tux over and over again," Espinoza said. "But when you're George Clooney, it's doesn't matter. He is a movie star."
