U2, Carey, Kanye Win Big at Grammys
February 9, 2006
After the winners grabbed their Grammy gold Wednesday night, they went backstage to celebrate with "Extra's" guest correspondent Brian McKnight!
The night started off with a stunned "Idol." Kelly Clarkson surprised everyone, especially herself, winning two Grammy. "Did you see the people I'm up against?" she said. "I don't know how this happened, but I'm very happy. I don't think I've ever shook that bad crying after anything!"
Rap superstar Kanye West lit the stage on fire with Jamie Foxx and their marching band. Mr. West then went on to win three Grammy Awards, but his wins were the last thing on his mind. "The highlight was my outfit tonight and second to that was my performance," he revealed.
Kanye also revealed what's up next on his winning agenda: the theme song for the upcoming "Mission Impossible: 3."
Songstress Mariah Carey also took home three golden statues. "I felt a lot of love from the audience," she gushed. "And to win three, which is more than I've ever won, was a cool thing and very, very nice."
Rock gods U2 rocked the Grammys, proving with five wins that they still have it going on.
And John Legend, who serenaded the audience with his beautiful voice, ended the night with three statues! "This was amazing," Legend said. "The whole night, I felt like I was just in a very positive zone."
On music's biggest night, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong (who won the Grammy for Record of the Year) summed it up best for all the big winners: "This is the most exciting night of my life!"
But before anyone even hit the stage, the Grammy Awards got off to a big start. Show stealers Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, who made their first public appearance together holding hands, brought the red carpet to a stand still.
Another couple holding hands emerged baring a bump! A glowing Gwen Stefani and her hubby Gavin Rossdale were all smiles as the songstress made her first public appearance since announcing her pregnancy.
Meanwhile, there's no question about it, Madonna put on a quite a show at the Grammy Awards, and just moments after her killer opening number, the queen of pop sat down with talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres.
Ellen bussed in 100 lucky audience members for her VIP
Grammy special with the material mom. And Madonna did
not disappoint, even talking about the rumors about
her marriage to Guy Ritchie.
"Really, we split up?" Madonna said. "Well, he's still calling me every five minutes."
The 47-year-old phenom also opened up about the body that made millions of jaws drop at the Grammys, even though she was recently sidelined after a being thrown from a horse.
"I had to start all over and invent a whole new workout," she revealed.
Madonna also made a big announcement left her fans breathless. "I'm going on tour this summer," she revealed.
Ellen's special Grammy show also featured rap star Nelly, who revealed why Ellen gets all the A-list stars. "She makes it so you can be yourself."
Ellen has lots of reasons to celebrate these days; on Wednesday she was nominated for 11 Daytime Emmy Awards. Although she admitted, "I didn't get nominated for Best Hair… Dr. Phil did. That makes me question something."
