George Clooney: A Modern Master
February 6, 2006
George Clooney might have to make some more room on his mantle. After scoring three Oscar nominations last week, the actor received the prestigious Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival over the weekend.
Previous winners have included Peter Jackson, Jodie Foster and Sean Penn. "I don't care for them," joked Clooney. "There's Jodie…what has she done?"
Clooney's phone was ringing off the hook on Tuesday with praise from a slew of famous fans. Broadcasting legends Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather, rock star Bono and even former President Bill Clinton all called to congratulate Clooney on his success.
"I got a call from President Clinton," George revealed. "I got a call from people I really like. It's exciting".
Even though Clooney received love left and right, he confessed that his favorite call was from himself. "I reminded myself that I was the Sexiest Man Alive in 1997," he said. "And if it wasn't for pretty boy Pitt, I probably would have taken '98, but he ran a very good campaign."
Amidst all the phone calls and award season shuffle, the ever-desired Clooney found time to shoot an overseas commercial. "It was one for a coffee machine," Clooney said. "You know, I got paid a dollar for ‘Syriana' and ‘Good Night, and Good Luck,' so I actually needed to make some cash."
The former Sexiest Man Alive should have no trouble making ends meet after the 2006 Academy Awards on Sunday, March 5th. And you can be sure that "Extra" will take you there!
