The Year of the Foxx
February 28, 2005
Jamie Foxx took home top honors at Sunday night's
Academy Awards for his portrayal of Ray Charles,
and right after he accepted his award, he and
his daughter, Corrine, sat down with "Extra"
to talk about the emotional night.
Jon Kelley: Congratulations! Cheers to you! You've
been playing it humble, but can we finally say
it is the year of the Foxx?
Jamie Foxx: I'm going to keep playing it humble.
JK: How would you describe the transformation
of Jamie Foxx from 12 months ago to now?
JF: You know, I grew up a whole lot, because you
know the young Jamie Foxx…
JK: How much have you changed from that?
JF: I've changed completely.
JK: In your acceptance speech, you mentioned Oprah
introducing you to film legend Sidney Poitier.
How did that influence you?
JF: At the end of the night, he says, "I
give to you responsibility, and the responsibility
to stay humble." It let me know that to rise
up now, to flaunt now and to dance in the endzone
now, means nothing because one touchdown doesn't
make the whole game.
JK: Corrine, what did you say to your dad before
he went on stage and won the actor award?
Corrine Foxx: I said if you don't win, you don't
need a statue to tell you you're a good actor.
JK: What's it feel like holding that trophy?
CF: It feels heavy.
JK: How does it feel, Jamie?
JF: I'll never get these types of moments again,
there be will be different moments I hope, but
not like this.
