An All-Star Night
February 28, 2005
"Extra" was right in the middle of
the Oscar red carpet Sunday night, and we caught
all the stars from every angle as they arrived
in first-class fashion.
This year's Academy Awards were certainly a family
affair. Clint Eastwood arrived escorting his 96-year-old
mother, Jamie Foxx brought his 11-year-old daughter,
Corrine, and Natalie Portman brought along her
parents.
"She may not know the significance of everything
right now, but one day when she gets older she'll
tell her friends, 'Me and my dad did something
so fabulous,'" Foxx told us. "So as
long as she has that memory and I have that memory,
that's what it's all about."
In addition to the happy families, the Oscars
were certainly a night for happy couples. Leonardo
DiCaprio made his red carpet debut with supermodel
girlfriend Giselle Bundchen. But the "Aviator"
star was starting to feel the pressure: "As
soon as I sit down, all the pressure and all that
stuff is going to come down on me, and I'm going
to do my best to sit back and relax and have a
good time, which is hard to do man, it really
is."
Meanwhile, Beyoncé and Jay-Z made a rare
appearance together, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis
arrived hand in hand and Oprah double dated with
Quincy Jones.
Penélope Cruz found time to clear up the
marriage rumors about she and her "Sahara"
costar Matthew McConaughey. "No again, they're
not true," she insisted. "They come
up with all these crazy stories like every three
or four months."
And Hilary Swank had plenty of time to talk up
her leading man. "You know what, I thank
Chad everyday," she said of her husband.
"Chad knows how grateful I am for him and
for everything that he is."

On the red carpet, we debuted our one-of-a-kind,
bling-encrusted microphone flag designed exclusively
for "Extra" by Mikimoto.
Valued over $200,000, the glittering mic flag
featured over 400 Akoya cultured pearls, accompanied
by hand-selected golden, black, white and grey
South Sea Pearls, 5.3 carats of diamonds and 8.25
carats of blue sapphires.
