Geared Up for the Grammys
February 10, 2005
The stage is being set at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the 47th Annual Grammy Awards, and with most of the preparations in full swing, you can bet the pre-parties are, too! Only "Extra" got the exclusive invitation to party with Grammy's man of the hour, superstar producer-turned-rapper, Kanye West.
Kanye, who leads the Grammy pack with 10 nominations, performed Wednesday night at LA's House of Blues in a pre-Grammy American Express jam session. And the superstar told us his Grammy message: "You've got to believe in yourself first and the world will follow."
Kanye joined forces with "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and Grammy nominees Maroon5 and Christina Milian for Grammy Career Day, a function where the stars give advice to 1,300 LA high school students.
"I got nominated for two Grammys," Milian said. "I feel it's such a blessing, and this is my blessing also, to give to the kids."
Meanwhile, getting ready for music's biggest night means star styling, and we caught up with the Grammy-nominated Black Eyed Peas, who were shopping for goodies at the Grammy Style suite. "My adrenaline is definitely going, I see lots of stuff," Stacy Ferguson, a.k.a. Fergie, admitted.
And Academy President Neil Portnow told us to expect some hot celebrity performances on the big night: "You'll see James Brown with Usher and Alicia with Jamie Foxx doing music, not acting."
You can also expect to see some surprise appearances in the audience. Miss Janet Jackson revealed to us she'll be there. "I wasn't going to go to the Grammys until I got invited the other day by someone close to my heart who is nominated -- Jermaine," Jackson revealed.
We've also learned there will be a president, and of course, a who's who of rock royalty on hand, when the Grammy awards are handed out Sunday night.
