George Clooney Earns Three Oscar Nods
January 31, 2006
Well, by George, Clooney has done it! The sexy actor scored three Academy Award nominations Tuesday morning: a Best Actor nod for "Syriana" and Best Director and Best Screenplay nods for "Good Night, and Good Luck."
Clooney admitted that instead of opting to sleep, he stayed up all night long. "I did it differently than other people," he said. "See, everyone else, they got woken up really early. I just stayed up all night."
"Extra's" Jerry Penacoli caught up with a jubilant George and his "Good Night" co-writer and producer Grant Heslov, who is also an Oscar nominee.
So where exactly were the two guys when the news broke this morning? "I was in bed with you at that point," joked Clooney.
"We were spooning actually," Heslov added.
"You start to wonder if it's actually real," Clooney admitted. "It was really nice. It was a fun morning."
George also revealed his secret to fighting off any sign of sleepiness: looking at Jerry's bright blue tie! "The tie is waking me up, I'll tell you that."
So who was the first person Clooney called to share
the good news? "My dad," he responded. "He
was the first person. I'm still watching the show, and
he's like 'Congratulations!' And I'm like,'Take it easy,
let's see what happens.'"
Now on to the question every girl in America wants to
know: who will George bring as his date to the Oscars?
"Take it easy, I just got a nomination," George
said. Perhaps his dad will be on hand for the big night?
"Maybe, you never know."
We'll be watching on March 5th, George. Until then,
"Good Night, and Good Luck."
