'Crash,' 'Housewives,' 'Lost' Win Big at SAG Awards
January 30, 2006
"Extra" and T-Mobile were dialed in as the stars of the Screen Actors Guild Awards came backstage to celebrate their big wins!
Sandra Oh, who won Best Actress in a Drama, wasn't as flustered as she was at the Golden Globes. Backstage, the actress picked up the T-Mobile phone to call her parents: "Hi Mom and Dad, I'm sure you're at the Parks' house because the Parks' have cable!"
And it didn't take long before the T-Mobile phone station turned into a real "Desperate" house party. So after winning the award for best cast in a Comedy series, how did the ladies of Wisteria Lane plan to celebrate? "Well, here's what's funny," Teri Hatcher revealed, "We all have to be at work very early in the morning."
Meanwhile, sexy young "Housewives" actor Shawn Pyfrom got hot on stage -- literally. As the hunk starting sweating on camera, Nicollette Sheridan assured him, "You're even hotter when you're nervous," to which Marcia Cross, his feisty TV mother, retorted, "Back off sweetheart; he's my son!"
Cross kept the party going inside the SAG awards photo room. Of Steven Culp and Roger Bart, "Extra's" Dayna Devon asked Marcia, "Are they not the two best looking dead guys you've ever seen?" She nodded in approval, then said "You know, it's like nobody wants to work with me anymore because I'm the kiss of death!"
Culp confirmed, saying, "She's the black widow, we call her."
The fun didn't stop there for the "Housewives." The women put their claws away to help co-star Felicity Huffman celebrate her win for Best Actress in a Comedy. And how did Huffman's hubby William H. Macy congratulate her? "He just gave me a kiss," she gushed. "He's just the best."
And while millions saw "Crash" crush the competition for best movie cast, what you didn't see was an emotional Reese Witherspoon. The leading lady was near tears as her husband took the stage. "Crash won! That's Ryan's movie! Ryan won!" she said excitedly.
Which means this winning couple will have to make room not one, but two, SAG statuettes.
But before they went home, the cast of "Crash" was ready to party. "Extra" pinned down versatile actor, Terrence Howard, to ask him if he knows Will Smith and Jamie Foxx are starting up a campaign to get him nominated for an Oscar.
"That's incredible," he replied. But Sandra Bullock pointed out, "They're a little behind because we've been on the campaign trail for quite some time now."
Meanwhile, "24" star Kiefer Sutherland brought his biggest fan to the show: his 13-year-old stepson, who beamed as his super-cool stepdad won the Best Actor in a Drama statue. "It was really nice," Kiefer said of sharing the moment with his stepson.
The entire cast of "Lost" found a treasure at the awards show, but we're all dying to know: will Josh Holloway's character, Sawyer, ever get any loving? "If I got anything to do with it!" he laughed. "It's 'Brokeback Island!'"
And speaking of loving, a newly single S. Epatha Mekerson, who thanked her divorce lawyer during her acceptance speech, was on the hunt for "Extra's" own Jon Kelley.
Backstage, the Best Actress in a TV Movie dialed up Jon and said, "I fessed up on live television that I'm divorced. So now, you've got to step up and do something. Take me out for a cocktail, baby!"
Now, that's a way to celebrate a win at the SAG Awards!
