The Experts Predict Who Will Bask In the Golden Light
January 16, 2006
Monday night's Golden Globes will kick award season into high gear. "Extra" hooked up with film critic Jessica Shaw and television critic Matt Rousch, who gave us their predictions on the Globes big winners.
In the film category, Shaw told us, "I think it's pretty much a shoo-in who's going to win for Best Drama this year: 'Brokeback Mountain.'"
But will first-time nominee Heath Ledger walk away with the Best Actor statue? "Who should win? I would have to say Philip Seymour Hoffman," Shaw said.
The Best Actress category includes past winners like Charlize Theron, but Shaw believes an Emmy winner may steal the show for her gender-bending role. "You've got to go with Felicity Huffman," Shaw said. "She should win and she will win."
Look for the Man in Black to walk away with Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress statues. "'Walk The Line' is really going to clean up in the musical/comedy category," Shaw predicted.
Television will be sharing the stage Monday night, and TV Guide's Matt Rousch believes that it will be a two-horse race for Best Drama: "I think 'Lost' will win, and I think 'Lost' should win, but there's a part of me that thinks that 'Grey's Anatomy' could be a real secret surprise for the Golden Globes."
And although "House" star Hugh Laurie may be the critic's darling, Rousch predicts that shades of "Grey" may cloud a possible victory. "I think Patrick Dempsey will win," Rousch said.
Other nominees to put your money on: Kyra Sedgwick for "Closer" and "My Name Is Earl."
Rousch's prediction for Best Comedy could upset the women of Wisteria Lane. "'My Name is Earl' should win, 'My Name is Earl' will win," he said. "It's the freshest new comedy on the block."
Don't worry about the "Housewives" though; Rousch says that at least one of them will walk away happy. "I think Marcia Cross should win for playing Bree Van De Kamp, and I think she will win," Rousch said. "But that's a really tough call."
Find out who wins all the tough calls, Monday night on NBC.
